02 / How I build

How the Work Connects

I have spent 15+ years making complicated systems reliable, supportable, and understandable. I led a Fort Collins datacenter and NOC, owned annual SOC audit readiness and the hardest production escalations, and now build AI-enabled products, cloud platforms, and infrastructure software for clients. The common thread is simple: I stay responsible for the whole system and for the people who have to operate it.

01

Audited operations

Annual SOC 1 and SOC 2 technical readiness under SSAE 18: access, failover, backup, recovery, monitoring, procedures, remediation, and direct auditor work.

02

NOC and escalations

Primary on-call ownership, severe-incident diagnosis, customer communication, recovery, root cause, post-incident work, capacity planning, and complex migrations.

03

Hybrid infrastructure

Datacenter, virtualization, compute, storage, networking, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.

04

Modern engineering

React, TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, AI agents, tool orchestration, evaluation, CI/CD, design systems, accessibility, and production observability.

Career record

Systems Leadership in the Record

01
2015 — 2019

Front Range Internet — Senior Systems Engineer / Datacenter Architect

Led infrastructure architecture and reliability for a 30,000-square-foot commercial datacenter in Fort Collins across compute, storage, virtualization, networking, colocation, cloud, and managed services. Led the NOC and served as primary on-call engineer for escalations, directing diagnosis, customer communication, recovery, post-incident work, capacity planning, and complex migrations. Owned technical readiness and remediation for annual SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits under SSAE 18, working directly with auditors and proving access, failover, backup, recovery, monitoring, and operating controls. Passed every year. Modernized Nagios into Zabbix, stabilized an unhealthy AWS database estate costing about $10K/month, and introduced Docker, Swarm/Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD practices.

02
2009 — 2011

IBM — Infrastructure and Systems Focal

Infrastructure focal for shared enterprise environments serving millions of users, including Best Buy, Amtrak, and USPS work, with responsibility across incidents, escalations, virtualization, hosted desktops, backups, audit controls, and production change. Automated recurring compliance, backup, and operational checks and translated problems between application teams, infrastructure specialists, service managers, and customers.

03
2019 — 2021

Wray, Colorado / Excell Services — Independent Systems Consultant

Moved to Wray after fiber reached the community and spent three years helping rural businesses and residents adopt modern networks, computers, cloud tools, reliable backups, and practical technical support. Served as the complete IT function for Excell Services and roughly 30 employees: rebuilt servers, negotiated and connected fiber that saved thousands, established multi-site recovery, improved wireless links, and migrated operations without disrupting the business.
